Most of the material is from 1946/1947 to 1991/1992, with the earliest items dating from 1929. Of special note is a volume entitled "University of Pittsburgh Report to Phi Beta Kappa." The title page reads "General report presented for consideration by the Committee on Qualifications of the United Chapters of Phi Beta Kappa, June 1950." It contains detailed information concerning the liberal arts and science programs at the University of Pittsburgh at that time.

The Xi Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Pittsburgh was formally established as a chapter of the national organization in 1953.
